Happy 2019! I was lucky enough to get in some reading over the last week of 2018 and surprised myself by finishing five books in by TBR pile. It might have been rain, or the sitting by the fire, or the rolling fog on the river, I just couldn’t seem to do anything else. And while all of the books that I read were pretty good, one rose above the others: Dawn of Wonder by Jonathan Renshaw. Here’s my review:
Beautifully executed world building. I wasn’t expecting to read an epic fantasy over break, but was totally engrossed by this book. One evening, I looked at the clock, and it was 4am. It’s be a while since a book made me forget that I needed to be sleeping. After breakfast, I made sure to finish the last few chapters before starting the Sunday crossword. If you knew me, that’s saying something—as with coffee, my day doesn’t start without the nyt crossword. Kudos to Jonathan Renshaw.
I definitely recommend reading this first book in Renshaw’s Wakening Series. However, be prepared to wait for the second installment as I saw on his website that he’s still writing it.
